BLOC Women’s Ministry

Living and working in Price Hill, we found one segment of its inhabitants that critically needed resources for hope and change, but have very few positive avenues:  women who are homeless, abused, addicted, trafficked or prostituted. Our staff women envisioned safe places for these hurting women to establish stability in their lives, recognize pathways to wholeness, and find courage and support to move into health and independence.

BLOC Women’s Ministry is comprised of numerous purposefully designed programs that include the following.

Weightless Anchor Hospitality Homes

In 2012, we opened the first Weightless Anchor hospitality home in Lower Price Hill in urban Cincinnati to offer a safe place for women to rest, hang out, develop relationships, do laundry, have a meal and generally have a moment of relief from their challenging lives. In the fall of 2015 the second Weightless Anchor Hospitality home was opened in East Price Hill. Female only volunteers are always available to talk to, provide guidance, pray, and support the next step of recovery.

Redeemed Transitional Home

BLOC Women’s Ministry recently opened a transitional home, Redeemed Home, and a program designed to serve women survivors of trafficking, prostitution and addiction.  Our goal is to create a supportive environment that leads to self-sufficiency.

  • 1-2-year residential program (up to 4 women)
  • Housing, addiction/medical referrals, therapy, lifestyle education and job training will be provided without charging women or receiving government funding.
  • Graduates of the program will have the money and skills necessary to begin a new independent life.
  • There will be a full time staff person on site to provide the women support through their journey.

Below is a downloadable list of items that are needed. If you feel like you could help out by donating any of the items, please reach out to us by filling out the contact form on this page.

BLOC Print and Sustainable Social Enterprises Benefiting BLOC Women’s Ministry
One of BLOC’s social enterprises, BLOC Print, is focusing on training and employing Redeemed House residents, along with program graduates and other hard-to-employ men and women, including ex-felons.

Women trained through this program will become proficient at business planning, administration, production, and the skills in printing that are needed to secure available jobs in and around Cincinnati.

Over time, the net proceeds generated by BLOC Print will help provide the operating funding for the Hospitality Home and Residential Home programs.

Girls Wanted

A program for teenage girls to have a safe place to come and get away from the pressures they face. Tuesdays from 6-7:30pm for ages 12-18, we eat, play, talk, and create. Our mission each Tuesday night is to connect girls with each other, female role models, and God. And in so doing, help them know they are loved and valued, which results in less susceptibility to drug addiction and sex trafficking traps.

Prison Ministry for Women

BLOC’s outreach to inmates is an extension of the Weightless Anchor day shelter.

Jail time is sometimes a blessing, as it leaves our ladies clean and able to think clearly for the first time in years. When one of our ladies goes to jail, we have women pastors specifically authorized to visit them. Being an encouragement through face-to-face pastoral visits, being present at court hearings and providing the ladies we first met at Weightless Anchor with Bibles and devotionals while they are incarcerated, gives them a real and lasting hope for the future. From there, we offer them the opportunity to become a part of BLOC’s Redeemed House.
